ARTIST STATEMENT CARLOS G. SCOTT

Human sensuality is a precious and unique gift that allows us to experience love, sadness, joy, pain and many other common emotions. In the arts, human sensuality can also be a platform for sharing impressions and ideas using poetry, music and visual imagery on both a conscious and subconscious level. Such sensual connections can be richly rewarding for both the artist and the lover of art and so form in very human and limitless terms, the essence and purpose of artistic expression.

CARLOS G. SCOTT DEC 2012 - BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1952 in the city of La Paz, Bolivia from Scottish and Spanish ancestry on his paternal
side, and Australian and Irish ancestry on his mother's side, Carlos' bicultural background and childhood experiences in those countries as well as here in the US have contributed to his
artistic vision in subtle and varied ways. There is no specific subject or symbolic representation that he holds above all others. If his focus could be narrowed down to one thing it would be“Where art and photography converge” His work has evolved from producing strictly
representational themes to include abstract, semi-abstract, and impressionist images that highlight textures, colors, and forms found in common every-day subjects. Among his current motifs you can find reflections in the Miami River, the natural decaying process of leaves and plants, as well as the natural effects of time, weather and oxidation on metals and other
materials. Though they may retain strong aspects of their original forms, many of the images
are striking for their divergence, or, transformation, if you will, into new forms, textures and colors that are choreographed in a spectacular movement across the spectrum.

The improvisational quality of these otherwise seemingly static subjects may be traced back to Carlos' passion for sports, in particular, soccer, as it embodies the unexpected and spontaneous actions of the moment. He played cricket and rugby in Australia, and soccer in Bolivia as well as here in the US, where he received an athletic scholarship to Adelphi University. It was during this time that he began to develop an interest in art and photography.
Upon graduation, he went on to play professionally in the NASL, including several years for the New York Cosmos with the king of soccer, Pele. A serious and recurring knee injury
prematurely ended a promising career in professional soccer. Interestingly, however, this misfortune turned out to be an important catalyst to further exploring the world of art. During recovery and rehabilitation from surgery, Carlos used art as his creative outlet and began to paint with pastels and oils, while also exploring and developing a keen interest in photography and mixed media as vehicle for his artistic expression.

Artists as varied as: Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Bresson, Georgia O'Keefe, Vincent van Gogh,
Jean-Michel Basquiat and Salvador Dali -- are prominent among the influences in shaping Carlos' artistic vision.
